Painting over a wallpaper patern

I have painted over wallpaper using a Matt emulsion (flat latex). Usually 2 coats is enough. Trouble is this wallpaper has a flower pattern and the flowers are still showing their shape through the paint. Any ideas for this problem???

Painting a textured wallpaper
by: Shawn

Hi Lee,

If the paper is textured, when you feel it, then an application of (non-water based) primer followed by a skim coat (or three) of mud or plaster may be required. Otherwise the dye in the paper is bleeding through and using an oil or alkyd as opposed to a water based primer, prior to painting, should fix the problem.
