Paint over wallpaper glue

I can not get the paste from wallpaper off the wall. Can I paint over it?

Hi Sherry,

I would recommend using an oil based primer over the glue. You will then need to do what we call a skim coat of drywall mud over all of the areas that you can see the glue through the primer (this may mean having to coat all of the walls surface). Also, more than one coat of mud may need to be applied (three or more in some cases).

Once the mud is dry you will need to sand it smooth to the walls surface. Spot prime your mudding or re-prime the entire wall and then apply two coats of paint.
