Making a brick looking fireplace wall with textured paint

by Lauren

Hi

I would like to paint over a painted fireplace wall. I would want it to look like colored rough, brick. Is there a texture, could I put some mortar on an area and paint over it? Removing the old paint would be way to difficult for me so I would prefer not to do that. Do you have any ideas for me?

Hi Lauren,

You would need to prime over the previously painted area first. Once primed there are textured paints, which can be tinted to your color of choice, that you would purchase from your local paint store. Using a good quality painters tape should also give you the brick effect that your looking for. If you go to a store that specializes in paint products they will be able to help you with the proper tools, primer, textured paint and tape that you need.
