HVLP Problems

I use an HVLP spray gun to shoot varnish.

My gun started spitting and bubbling air up into the cup. I totally disassembled and cleaned the gun including orifices and then re-assembled the unit. Once assembled I tried spraying some thinner but it still bubbles back up into the cup and will only spray for a second before quiting.

HVLP might have an air leak
by: Shawn

Hi Robert,

Since it sounds like you have a down feed gun (which has no outside check valve) then my guess would be that you have an air leak somewhere. Most likely where the cup attaches to the gun though it could be somewhere on the gun itself too. If the hole or crack is small it can be tough to find sometimes.

I have an airless paint sprayer that gave me grief for three or four years. The thing wouldn't prime up and the techs couldn't fix it. Every few months, when I was looking for something to do, I would pull the thing out and try to get it working. One day, after years of tinkering with the thing, I found a tiny, tiny, tiny, pin hole in the suction part of the pump.

Needless to say, I have back ups to my back ups when it comes to paint sprayers.
