WHAT CAN ELECTROSTATIC PAINT SPRAYERS DO

There are two types of electrostatic spraying. Bombardment and contact charging. Both require an electric charge to cause a cloud of paint to stick to an electrically grounded surface. The charged paint is attracted to the grounded surface somewhat like when two magnets want to stick together.

Bombardment atomizes and uses air molecules to electrically charge paint as it quickly exits a specialized spray gun. Contact charging occurs when the paint is directly charged by an electric source.

ELECTROSTATIC PAINT SPRAYERS

All types of systems can be used as electrostatic paint sprayers, including air assist, airless, conventional, and hvlp. What would be needed is a specialized gun and paint products, then choose the system best suited for the job at hand.

WHAT’S GOOD ABOUT ELECTROSTATIC PAINTING

When you use electrostatic paint sprayers, there will be less over-spray resulting in a reduction of paint used, lowered environmental concerns, less health issues for the people around or the person spraying.

Electrostatics will also leave a very uniform and consistent paint layer, have excellent adhesion, create few drips or runs and the surfaces your painting can easily have a color change due to the coverage of electrostatic painting.

WHAT’S BAD ABOUT ELECTROSTATIC PAINTING

Electrostatic paint sprayers can be very costly and don’t work well on internal areas such as inside corners or narrow recess. Also, a certain paint may be needed, the area being coated must be very clean of contaminants, degreased , and the surfaces being painted has to be properly grounded.

SUMMARY

Using electrostatic paint sprayers is a standard in the auto industry. If your not scared away by the cost or surface cleanliness issues and are interested in painting a few cars or would like to get into the industrial painting industry, then an electrostatic spray system could be just what you need.
