Do I need to prime wood before applying stain

If I plan to paint stain on new wood do I need to prime the wood first? I have a number of new wooden windows that need to be "painted"

Hi,

When using a solid colored (non-see through) stain on raw wood primer is not necessary.

On the other hand, if the stain being applied is transparent (see through) a conditioner may be required.

Pre-conditioned pine for example has less chance of looking blotchy or discolored when stained.

Your local paint store retailer will assist you with the products needed in relationship to the project being done.

Shawn.
